Classroom Behavior and Discipline Policy
It is my belief that each student must take responsibility for their own behavior. Children are more likely to do this if they develop a sense of ownership in the policies and procedures that govern the classroom. In order to facilitate this, the students will assist me in developing Classroom Expectations to be met by each student throughout our school day. Rather than create a list of rules which focus more on what ‘not’ to do, we will decide as a classroom community what is expected from each of us. Subsequently, there will be a system of rewards and consequences for how well or how poorly students meet their expectations. We will utilize a daily color-coded point system to indicate to parents and guardians how well we meet our expectations.
It is the responsibility and requirement of the student to have their conduct chart signed each night and return it the next day. Failure to meet this expectation will count toward the reduction of a daily conduct grade.
At the end of each 6 week grading period, students will receive a conduct grade on their report card. Below are the color codes and the point value for each.
Purple: 110 points
Awarded to students who display an exceptional example of meeting their expectations. Not awarded as a daily conduct grade.
Green: 100 points
Met All Expectations with 1 or fewer reminders or reprimands.
Yellow: 80 points
Received a second reminder or reprimand for unsuccessful attempts to meet expectations.
Blue: 60 points
Received a third reminder or reprimand for unsuccessful attempts to meet expectations.
Orange: 40 points
Received a fourth reminder or reprimand for unsuccessful attempts to meet expectations.
Red: 20 points
Received a fifth reminder or reprimand for unsuccessful attempts to meet expectations or attempted to physically harm another person or another’s (including school) property.
