We will work very hard to create a ‘classroom community’. This is an environment where each child is welcomed daily and should feel safe and accepted by those around them. A classroom community encourages individuality and fosters learning experiences that are relevant to their lives as well as allows the children to take risks as learners. A classroom community also asks that students take responsibility for their actions, both positive and negative.
In an effort to guide the children in positive decision-making, I ask that the children meet some very basic expectations. I refer to our classroom behavior guidelines as expectations rather than rules because I want the children to focus on making positive choices, rather than avoiding negative ones.
While I am confident that this form of classroom management is an effective tool in the overall academic success of each student, I also realize that children do from time to time make poor choices and decisions. In order to monitor student behavior, we will use a color-coded system that assists the student in tracking their behavior throughout the day. If your child is returning to CISD this fall, you are most likely aware of this system. If not, the basics of the system are listed below the classroom expectations at the end of this segment of the parent guide.
It is my hope that you will actively monitor your child’s daily behavioral conduct grade and encourage and support good decision making as well as council them on poor decisions that resulted in a color change or disciplinary action.
To the best of our ability, we will mark the conduct grades daily in the students’ agenda. The student is responsible for returning the following school day with a parent or guardian initialed signature indicating that he or she has informed you of the prior day’s events.
